PROFILE:

Steve Rogers has always been an outdoorsman. He graduated high school knowing what he wanted to do next: attend Mississippi State University to get a degree in forestry so that he could go to work in the industry. After doing just that, he went right to work, spending the next few years working for Kimberly-Clark and then TARA Industries, before eventually going to work for an aerial application business. All of that experience led to Rogers eventually making the move to go out on his own and start Cahaba Silvicultural Services. Based out of Selma, Rogers’ company offers clients the total package of reforestation, though he doesn’t consider himself to be the typical forester consultant. “Most of my customers are what I consider traditional consultants that handle timber sales,” he explained. “I feel my main role is consulting with them on the best and most economical path to reforestation.”

Rogers consults with clients all over Alabama, even going into the Florida Panhandle, west Georgia, and Tennessee. With more than 35 years of experience, he stays incredibly busy with two helicopters and various planting crews. “Working with private landowners is really where the satisfaction is for me,” he said. “I enjoy the different objectives they all have and helping them come up with a plan and see it through. It’s rewarding to me.”
