Len McCombs has always had the desire to help other people. It’s what led him to attending seminary school, working with children’s homes, and taking part in a prison ministry. It’s also what drives him in forestry as well.

McCombs got into forestry in the mid-1970s. He attended Auburn University, and while there, he took part in a co-op program with the U.S. Forest Service. During that time, he got the opportunity to travel across Tennessee and Arkansas finding and re-cruising research plots. Upon graduation, he worked for a few other industry companies, eventually landing at a company in Mississippi. Eventually, that come went out of business, and that’s when McCombs went out on his own and established McCombs Forestry Services.

The company has been based out of Hattiesburg ever since, but his clients and offerings bring him well into Alabama quite frequently. He frequently manages pulpwood thinnings, logging inspections, timber sales, reforestation, boundary line work, timber appraisals, and wildlife foot plots—essentially anything when it comes to land management. “I love being outdoors and I love helping people,” McCombs said. “That’s always been my desire, and if I can’t do it, I will help them find someone that can.”
